All pictures on this page appear in the actual footage of 'How to Judge a Cocker Spaniel'. DVD/Video ReviewWhen I sat down to run this video for review, I had no idea of the pleasure that was in store. I forgot the pen and paper and became completely absorbed. It was the 4th re-run before I picked up a pen! The masterly use of computer graphics cleverly superimposed over live dogs, without intrusion, makes this video a teaching tool of value. The clever hands of Mr Murray, handling the dogs to advantage and the clear photography puts this video in the forerunner of a great legacy for the future. While showing a good example of the standard requirements, and discussing the merits of such perfection, many specimens are presented for your individual evaluation and discussion, without any preconceived opinions intruding on the moment. Bob and Jane completed this task with tact, faithfully presenting the fundamentals of judging by comparing the dogs. The dogs are carefully selected to illustrate the points being made and while delivering the message, Jane's narration is clear and to the point. The light portrayal of the Cocker Spaniel's history gives a firm basis for the breed. In viewing a work, one becomes aware of the many hours of dedication involved to get the right shot, the correct moment, plus the careful editing of these clips to combine them into a free running and absorbing entertaining and educational whole, without jarring the senses. This is achieved without being noticeable; such is the craft of production. This video would be a good guide to any new student of the breed, who wonders what the judge finds to separate one dog from another, students of the breed and breeders and exhibitors who wonder why they are not regularly taking out first place. Additionally, I have no hesitation recommending this tool to be part of all judges' personal libraries.
